The wampana is the Spectacled hare-wallaby (Lagorchestes conspicicillatus). This is a Mudpurra word. This short solid wallaby has distinctive orange fur around its eyes. It sleeps in a tunnel in grass or under dense shade during the day and feeds at night. In the past they were eaten and the meat was tasty. They have not been seen much in recent times but sometimes are seen near kanawuna (lancewood) and kamanyi (bulwaddi) areas near Delamere, Top Springs (Yingawunarri), and Cattle Creek (Kunawa).

In the Dreamtime the wampana was travelling across the land from waterhole to waterhole – travelling to the first waterhole, then to the second waterhole and third one. The wampana stayed for a while at each waterhole but the cockatoo was following and warning of the hunters that were travelling behind, forcing the wampana to move on to the next one.
