This was a great place to swim and ride our bikes (it was a parklands of palms, too. So it was great for wedding ceremonies also)! Exploring the tracks around here, we’d always feel like we were on some movie adventure, cross-country (like in Lord of the Rings), and yet we were never too far away from home. We would dig the kaolin clay and mud from the river bed and throw clumps at one another in a game! We also tried not to swim into the black water lagoons either side of the crossing… But we did. We would traverse down from Six Tunnels straddling boogie boards, with flippers on our feet to catch the undercurrents which moved us along. The trees were tall melaleucas and made a deep brown/black ‘tea’ colour in the water at their roots and their leaves made the water dark. Now crocodiles are there.
