This painting is about the carpet snake’s journey across the ground. It appears in movement across the ground, staying grounded and moving towards a safe spot.
The carpet snake is painted in white (gubba) to represent the spiritual nature of this totem. The markings in the snake represent many things to me, about language, territory.
The snake turns into a fish hook at the end of it’s body, to represent my last name ‘FISHER’, and the story lineage of how we gathered that name, and the reference to fishing.
The boomerang represents protection over this totem. And the dots to the top left, represent different clans of people that have this same totem.
