Peggy is Garrwa, Gudanji and Wambaya and was born on Brunette Downs Station on the Barkly Tablelands. She grew up speaking Gudanji and Wambaya. Her country is Garrinjini through her father and grandfather. It is owned by the Mararabarna (mermaid-like Ancestral Beings). She is ngimarringki (boss) for that country. Peggy spent much of her childhood on Spring Creek Station.
