Marcia Biyay’ŋu

Marcia Biyay’ŋu is the granddaughter of master an-gujechiya (jungle vine fish trap) weavers Jack Maranbarra, Bonnie Burangarra, Frida Wyartja and Lily Roy, and the daughter of Sabrina Roy. Biyay’ŋu has been immersed in the process of harvesting and weaving her entire life and began her own career as an artist and weaver in 2018.

Under the guidance of her family, Biyay’ŋu has delved into using locally harvested materials to create weavings, and ochre works on bark and shell. She has also extended her practice to printmaking processes including etching.

Biyay’ŋu also enjoys playing AFL football and hunting for shellfish.
