Jocelyn Gumirrmirr

Milingimbi Art And Culture

Garrawurra woman Jocelyn Gumirrmirr was taught painting by her family during the Ŋarra cleansing ceremony, in which clan designs are used as body embellishment.

The three colours used for art production by the Liyagawumirr Garrawurra clan are associated with the ancestral Djan’kawu Sisters who travelled through north east Arnhem Land creating spring water, country, languages, clans and culture amongst Yolŋu people.

Jocelyn often lives in Galiwin’ku (Elcho island) and is represented by both Elcho Island Arts and Milingimbi Art and Culture.
