Jemma Unghango

Jemma was born at Kalumburu and was brought up by the Benedictine nuns at the mission. Jemma worked in the gardens, the kitchen and bakery, and illustrated Father Anscar McPhee’s 2011 book, A hero in the night time of the Dreaming: the story of Penda Gudje. Jemma’s favourite subjects for painting include Wandjina and Kira Kiro figures.

Jemma was selected for Revealed, Emerging and New Indigenous Artists Western Australia 2019 at Fremantle Art Centre.
