Waringarri Aboriginal Arts

16 Speargrass Rd, Kununurra, WA, 6743

Waringarri Aboriginal Arts promotes and celebrates art and culture of the Miriwoong Dawang and surrounding communities.

Established in the early 1980’s by senior artists of the East Kimberley region, the art centre is proudly Indigenous-owned, and operates as an artists’ studio and gallery selling ochre paintings, limited edition prints, engraved boab nuts, objects and wood carvings.

Waringarri Arts' distinctive ochre paintings convey the Country, its Ngarrangarni or Law, as well as the artists’ personal histories and knowledge. Artists share the importance of their Country and culture, while exploring a celebration of colour, composition and individualism.

Cultural performances, cultural tours and workshops complement the vitality of arts practice with an opportunity for visitors to share a connection to artists and their culture.

The art centre also supports Kira Kiro Artists, based in Kalumburu, north-west of Kununurra. Aritst from this remote art centre produce ochre paintings on canvas and bark depicting rock art found in the region such as the Wandjina and Kira Kiro spirits.
