Carmel Sams was born in Daly River, NT, and raised in Peppimenarti where she spent most of her time with the old people learning the knowledge of plants for fibre and dyeing. The techniques of weaving were learned sitting beside the female senior women. In 2002, she joined the Kalumburu community and has lived and worked here since then.
