Caressa Murphy

My name is Caressa Murphy. I am a Gumbayngirr woman and I live on Dharawal country on the south coast of New South Wales. I design and make childrens and babies clothing using Aboriginal printed fabrics. I am also an artist.

My mother was stolen from Gadigal country (Sydney) and we grew up on Dharug country (Western Sydney), we were very disconnected from our family. It has been a long hard road but I have reconnected with family and had many amazing mentors and friends from across this country giving me a beautiful journey which has been a healing process.

I began sewing at a very young age and entered into formal training in 1999. I have over 20 years of Australian fashion industry experience including teaching. I started my fashion label in 2009 and have a few accomplishments in women’s wear but it is a very hard market to crack. I pivoted to childrens wear in 2019 and I haven’t stopped since.

Combining my love of sewing and culture has been a major part of my life and in my reconnection and healing path. Producing childrens and babies clothing and accessories empowers Aboriginal people by inspiring our youngest ones and gives them pride to become who they want to be.

In the near future I will be producing original artworks to be printed onto fabrics making my creations even more unique and top quality.
