The Wangurri clan manage a number of clan estates in East Arnhem Land. Dhalinbuy on the western edge of Arnhem Bay is an important site for Wangurri. The Miny’tji (sacred designs and patterns) that come from this area are centred on the river that flows past Dhalinbuy. Inside the river is a special hollow log (ancestral creator). The Latjin (Mangrove worm – a prized food) live in the hollow in the log and are represented by the patterns used in the design. The log is often included with the design of the Ngokal (King fish) tail and the wet season cumulonimbus cloud. Also included are Watpirrya (freshwater fish) and Minhala (long necked turtle) these are also in the longlines associated with the fresh water river where the log rests.
