Napurrula’s father, Tupa Tjakamarra gave her the right to paint works related to Ilyingaungau in the Gibson Desert. This site, south of Walungurru (Kintore), some 520 kilometres west of Mparntwe (Alice Springs), is where the artist’s Mutikatjirri ancestors assembled their kulata (spears) for a conflict with the Tjukula men. Allusive works that refer to the straightening of kulata by Tjupurrula are among the landmark paintings of the Ikuntji Artists movement’s 30-year history. The paintings of Napurrula and her husband, Long Tom Tjapanangka, have come to be understood as archetypical of Ikuntji art since they began to work with the arts centre in 1993. Napurrula remembers, ‘ … After I got married, my mother taught me my father’s Tjukurrpa in the sand, that’s what I’m painting on the canvas’. The white pigment eddies around abstract forms that refer to the spearwood trees. The tightly structured patterning of the key motifs and bold use of colour demonstrates the artist’s confidence in her individual artistic vision within a family of superlative artists – and the cultural heritage that continues to inform the myriad expressions of Western Desert artists.

Freight and Handling Costs
Our prices are inclusive of freight & handling costs. As a remote Art Centre staff take great care in packing each item properly to ensure safe travels on the 230 km drive to the closest post office / courier office. All paintings are shipped unstretched, unless otherwise stated in the materials section as ‘Pre-Stretched’. Pre-stretching of larger canvas must be organised and paid for in advance. For International orders, a staff member will get in contact for additional shipping costs after your order is placed. Below are estimated pricing, we ship with Startrack.

Delivery Times
Due to Australian wide shipping delays, and the possibility of bad weather on local roads at all times of the year, delivery times may take longer than usual. Every effort is made to dispatch artworks as quickly as possible, but specific delivery times cannot be guaranteed. Please keep in mind that you are purchasing something from a remote community. Online orders will be sent after the event closes and will most likely not arrive before Christmas.
Please clearly nominate a delivery address, phone number and name for your delivery so we can easily get in-touch should a rare issue occur.
All items are posted using Startrack or Australia Post unless other delivery arrangements are made with the Art Centre. You will receive an email with your tracking number and order details once it has been posted.
Ikuntji Artists Refund policy
Ikuntji Artists does not offer refunds or returns for change of mind. Once an order is placed, it cannot be modified or cancelled. Please take this into consideration when purchasing items. Please also note that for handmade items such as fabrics and t-shirts, slight variations should be expected. Much care and time is taken when arranging photographs of artworks for the website and we do our best to assure that they are true to colour and form. Ikuntji Artists are not responsible for misrepresentations of images on personal devices.
Please be aware when purchasing clothing, we do not offer a refund for change of mind. Ikuntji can offer an exchange or store credit for incorrect sizing however we are not able to offer refunds or reimbursements for any postage costs including the return of the item.

- AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market & Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation takes no responsibility for the negotiation, coordination or distribution of freight and shipping of purchases made at the 2022 online AIATSIS Indigenous Art Market. Items customers wish to purchase may require a manual quote for freight which will be charged separately.
- Shipping and freight costs are not included in the advertised purchase price unless this is stipulated at the point of purchase of the item by the Art Centre/Participant/Vendor.
- If shipping and freight costs are not stipulated at point of purchase, all shipping and freight costs must be arranged directly with the Art Centre/Participant/Vendor from where the purchase was made.
