The Seven Sisters is a worldwide story about the seven sisters who leapt into the sky to get away from a man who was forbidden to marry any of them. There is a land formation of seven mounds, one of which is hidden, near Atherton. This painting depicts them jumping up to the sky from these mounds and becoming the Pleiades; but as we know, the bright star following them is the man still following them. The Pleiades, when it rises on the horizon to the East, signifies the change of seasons to winter.
