Artist : Elizabeth Ross ( deceased)

Elizabeth Ross, skin name Nungarrayi, was an important person in the Lajamanu community. She worked for many years at the local school in the bilingual education program, and was responsible for developing resources that supported Warlpiri teaching.

Nungarrayi strived to further her own education, and undertook higher studies at the Northern Territory’s Batchelor College. She dedicated much of her time to preserving Warlpiri culture and sharing local traditions with younger generations.

After her retirement, Nungarrayi developed a passion for painting, which she used as a means of sharing her Jukurrpa (Dreamings) with Warlpiri people and the wider world. Her artwork is often defined by bold dot work or solid lines.
