Uti Kulintjaku Watiku

NPY Women’s Council

In 2016 the Uti Kulintjaku Watiku (Men’s) Project began, driven by developing community capacity and resilience, strengthening Aṉangu wellbeing and addressing the drivers of family violence. Uti Kulintjaku Watiku is an innovative led by Aṉangu men who are senior community leaders, cultural authorities and Ngangkari from the 28 remote communities of the NPY region, which crosses the NT, SA and WA borders.

The Watiku project communicates in three languages (Pitjantjatjara, Ngaanyatjarra and English) and draws on the best of western and Aṉangu knowledge systems to find new ways to address the challenging issues related to improving Aṉangu social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Its reach and influence is extensive as it works within both Aṉangu and non- Aṉangu domains at an individual, family, community and systems level. The project takes a long-term view on achieving change to improve Aṉangu mental health and wellbeing, and transform communities.
