UMI Arts

I was born in Cairns and raised in Coen. I am a proud descendant of the Southern Kaantju & Ayapathu nations (from my father’s side) and Kuuku Ya’u & Lama Lama nations (from my mother’s side). I am a mum of a teenager whom many of my stories are inspired by or written for.

I didn’t really set out with any art genre in mind, as I started block printing through a workshop with UMI Arts back in 2020 as a new hobby. It is here I enjoyed every bit of the workshop and could have had some skill as I come from a line of Artists; one of them being my Grandmother, Doris Platt.

Although I am new to this area, I draw my inspirations from growing up on my Father’s Country and now as an adult, spending most of my weekends out on with my family where were either fishing, camping, or reviving for the week back at work.

It is here (on Country) I get to reflect on how I can share my stories through art so when the opportunity to finally create a piece came, I knew what I wanted to share. My life journey led me to create art and as I learn more through this medium, I learn more about me. This journey is about me truly discovering my identity. I have strong ties to family, country, and traditions that I can’t wait to share with the world.
