Rochelle Ngwarrey Bonney

Barkly Regional Arts

Epenarra artist Rochelle Bonney’s illustrative approach to painting uses blocks of colour, brush strokes, and traditional dot work to depict the natural landmarks of Iytwelepenty (the Davenport Ranges) and aspects of life there. Rochelle’s works often return to the banks of Frew River, an ephemeral river that runs near Wutungarra (Epenarra) during the wet season and frequently dries up in the drier months. Rochelle is a member of a young group of emerging artists from the community who have been significantly influenced by their elders, but who explore familiar themes with their own contemporary take on the art centre’s distinctive visual language.
